Day 2 – Getting the hang of it

Today’s goal was to do get to Turin, only 100 km to get there.

Woke up at 8 and I spent the next hour messaging people on warmshowers, while eating breakfast. I then managed to leave the campground at 9h30 and started my long journey towards Torino.

Baked beans for breakfast with an egg

Chased by the rain, I often checked satellite weather maps in order to avoid getting wet. I stopped for lunch in a cemetery next to castle in ruins, and NoĆ© video called me to keep me company. On the menu, the leftovers of yesterday’s dinner mixed with today’s breakfast. Only 45 km left, but I hear  thunder I decide it is time to go.

The mountain roads have been replaced by kilometers long straight lines that become very monotone. The afternoon was a challenge but I am starting to get the rythme of the bike and the gears.

The last 10 km are brutal, not physically but mentally, I am in the heart of Turin, it started raining, and with the traffic in the city I have to say focused even with the fatigue crepping in. I finally arrived at the campground at 16h, and after checking in at reception, I noticed there is another bike traveller here. Let’s try to go talk to them..

He is from France, and is doing a 6 day trip in the Italian/French alps. After talking for an hour while our phones are charging in the bathroom, we split up to get dinner. Since I have no gas to cook left, I decide to get Pizza at a restaurant, and do some phone calls to speed up the wait and not fall asleep at the table.

Time to go to bed, hope I sleep more than yesterday, and after 1 episode of better call Saul, I turn off the lights.
