Wake up with difficulty after resting night of sleep, sort of excited for the trip. I know it will be fun. In an hour, I have to meet Jenna from the ferry , we will ride all day together.
After breakfast, bathroom, and packing, it is already tome to leave. Sebastian proposes to guide us out of the city incognito, with nice gravel roads that bring us directly to cycle north. We almost don’t meet any cars or red light, mostly incredible smooth gravel roads, very close to the center of helsinki. We ride for about 1 hour before splitting, now time to push. (After goodbye)
We push hard with Jenna. With the strong pushwind, we are able to cruise at a 29kph average. We did 58km in just under 2 hours. Before reaching this lake, Jenna wants to take a swim, no choice but to follow. The water is cold, 10°C ish, so I just stay about 2 min, we then talk and time to go again.
Big push to lahti, and we are there in about 1 hour. Lots of fun racing and goofing on Finnish roads.
After coffee and food, I decide it is wiser to stay and rest, considering we have already riden 110km. (In hindsight, it would have been the best opportunity to do a big push to Sysma for a 180km+ day, and given that the camping is nicer than the hostel, with better kitchen, common room, and the tent is comfortable, would have saved a lot of money too)
I get to the hostel in Lahti, and before I know it, it’s late and time to go to bed.
