Woke up at 7h20 and got ready quickly to go. After finishing the usual packing routine, we go for a last coffee at a pastries shop nearby, Fabian gets an Americano, no coffee for le, just two “marmelade croissant”. We have a last discussion and by 9h00, we are both biking in opposite directions.
The morning feels like a full day, and I really find some energy and bike almost non stop until 13h00 (groceries at a small store). The road is fun and I listened to 3 podcasts which really helped pass time. (It sometimes feels I am wasting time being 6-7 hours on a bike everyday). But the morning goes well and stop at the beach, the least urban beach (most nature ish), since the beginning of my Adriatic adventure.
The first part of the afternoon is fun, and I then get on this super straight road for almost 20km. It looks endless, so I play some Ennio Morricone on the speaker in order to feel in a Western. The Sun is shining on the right side of my back, I have a slight tail wind, so I keep the rythme while listening to music. The side of the road is littered with garbage, so much plastic, but also mattresses, fridges, bikes, tires… On the other side of the road, the cars and trucks are passing me at very high speed (sometimes 100kmh?). So I take refuge on the side of the road, make myself small and keep going. Every kilometer, I pass, waiting, at intersections or wider stopping area, sex workers, waiting for clients on the side of the road, smoking a cigarette or listeningto music. I say hi to some of them, they tell me a joke, or just smile, sometimes the chair is empty, I just keep going.
I end up finding a small bed and breakfast to spend the night, I am the only person sleeping there so I spread my stuff in the common areas. It is clean, simple and I enjoy the privacy I finally get (I have not slept in a normal bed or alone in 30 days). After doing the usual shower + laundry, I head out in the small town to explore.
