Day 22 – Bye bye Italy

As I wake up, I think about my option for the night. I check couchsurfing and warmshowers but no answer to sleep in Bari. This is not great as all campings are closed nearby and hotels and airbnb too expensive. So the only logical solution is to sleep on the ferry, this means have to hurry to get to Bari and leave Italy tonight. It feels rushed, and I would have loved to stay in Bari to explore the city.

More obstacles along the way but it won’t stop me

80 km to Bari, I also have to buy food before getting to the ferry, and pass by one of my favorite store, decathlon in order to get some gas (for cooking) and bars. This does not leave me with much time, and this is why I decide to buy the ticket directly at the terminal.

Found a decathlon, and a lidl on the other side of the parking, I make provisions
Finally made it to Bari, only 10km to the ferry terminal
I can see the ferries

I quickly arrive at the Ferry terminal, and after some looking around I find the office Italy->Greece, I buy a ticket, a shared 4 people no windows room, the cheapest option, that is not just a random seat (100Eur, I belive 80Eur for a seat), the bike is free 🙂

The departure is later at night, so I leave the terminal in order to visit the city.

Next to the harbor, I bike barely 5 min to arrive to the Saint Nicholas Basilic, built in 1197, it is also in the center of the old city. With many tourists…

This big church in the centre of Bari has a simple outside design, the interior is sober, and the art on the ceiling is absolutely stunning, really draws the attention. It is also an important place of pilgrimage for Roman Catholics in Europe.

Visit the famous St Nicholas basilic, and reminds me I should do a prayer on beach later.

I then just relax next to the water, get ice cream…

And now time for the ferry.
