Day 7 – Yes it rains in italy

Woke up quite early and ate breakfast with Marius, it rained all night and it is supposed to rain all day. I really don’t feel like riding but I have to keep moving. I will do less kilometers than planned today (ended up being the hardest day yet)

Really rainy morning

I waited for the rain to calm down and left the house at around 11h, and then joined the bike path. And in a sort of magical way, the rain stopped and I even had sun shining most of the morning (ended up getting a sunburn on my legs). I biked until 13h20 and stopped for lunch at Jacky Pub pizzeria.

Pasta and Ragu

The rest of the ride to Trento was was pure pleasure, just enjoying the bike path, eating snacks, listening to music. Since I did not find anyone on Warmshower, I had to find a camping, but didn’t want to sleep in the city in a camping full of RV. The only “good” camping are in the mountains. I felt ok and decided to take on the challenge.

As you can see, it is steep, 8% average per kilometer. I only did the first 6km of this route but it was brutal

Already after the 1st km, I started to question my decision, but put the lowest gear, slowed down and try to relax. The 6km were brutal, but I did not push the bike, took just a few breaks.

But after some downhill, I would have to do it again in order to reach the campground. This is when it started to get really hard, I had no energy left, and only some very long 10km. Surrounded by apple trees and grapes, I tried to admire the beauty of the place to forget the physical pain, bit then it started raining, and there were 100s of flies flying around me and sticking to my body. From then it became mentally challenging, I stopped often, had to walk my bike on the hardest sections.

Finally made to the camping, I set up the tent under the rain, took a quick shower and when to the restaurant to get Pizza, I don’t what the plan is tomorrow, bit for now relax.
